Research Professor Raija Laiho is a peatland & forest ecologist working at the Natural Resources Institute Finland in Helsinki. Her main research interests are the ecology, soils, element cycles, vegetation and carbon balance of forests growing on organic soils. Evaluating the bases for ecologically and economically sustainable forestry has been one common thread in her research activities. She is currently focusing on the potential of different forest management options, such as continuous-cover forestry, to mitigate the climate impacts of forestry.

Antti Asikainen is the professor in forest technology (since 2001) in the Natural Resources Institute Finland, LUKE. His research areas are biomass availability and policy studies, wood harvesting technology and logistics. He has been the National team leader of several tasks of IEA Bioenergy (International Energy Agency) looking at the use of forest biomass for energy production. 

 Asikainen is a member of the Finnish Climate Change Panel (2016-2018) and he has contributed to several bioenergy related policy briefs to National and EU’s decision makers. 

Asikainen coordinates Boreal Green Bioeconomy programme in Luke. Previously he has been coordinating large forest bioenergy programmes (Bioenergy from forests 2007-2011, ForestEnergy2020 joint research programme (2012-2015). He coordinated EU’s FP7 project on the use of residual forest biomass for energy (INFRES) in 2011-2015. He was nominated in the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry in 2013.

Inka Musta works as environmental manager at UPM – The Biofore Company. She wants to promote ecologically sustainable use of forests and thus also global sustainable development goals. Inka works with forest environmental issues such as biodiversity, water quality and carbon sequestration and their maintaining in commercial forests. She’s also enthusiastic about environmental politics, communications and co-operation with stakeholders. Her background is in forest ecology and forest politics and she has previously worked in different positions at Finnish Forest Industries Federation and Metsähallitus, the state forest organization.

The interior architect and designer Tapio Anttila (b. 1962) is a versatile freelance designer based in Lahti, Finland. Anttila works extensively in the fields of product design, concept design and interior architecture. He is particularly interested in Finnish wood and the modern ways of working with it, whilst still respecting tradition. In furniture design, he focuses on functional pieces for the home and public spaces.
After years of working as an in-house designer, Anttila established his own business ‘Tapio Anttila Design’ in 2005. Anttila’s clients include numerous Finnish companies and also Italian companies such as Riva 1920. His products are available in design stores throughout Finland and around the world, for instance at the MOMA Design Store in New York.
Recent developments in Tapio Anttilas career include the ‘Tapio Anttila Collection’, his own product concept, and a colabotration with the finest Chinese furniture brands together with Finnish designer Jonas Hakaniemi under brand ‘Anttila & Hakaniemi’.
Anttila’s designs have received several high-profile international design awards, including thirteen Good Design awards for various products, two Green Good Design Awards and two EcoDesign Awards for sustainable design. In 2012 Anttila was awarded the Furniture Designer of the Year by Ornamo, the Finnish Association of Designers, and in 2017 Rantasalmi Award for his merits as wood designer.
The ecological aspects of design are the core values for Tapio Anttila. Simplicity, aesthetic form language and functionality are the best words to describe his designs.

Katja enjoys teaching her children about Finnish forests, forest management and the various renewable raw materials coming from wood. Katja has been active in promoting the field for young people through Finnish Forest Industries (Metsäteollisuus Ry) and Forest Products Engineers (Puunjalostajainsinöörit). Forests and the youth are the future of Finland!

Karl-Henrik Sundström was appointed CEO of Stora Enso in August 2014. He joined Stora Enso in August 2012 as CFO and member of the Group Leadership Team. In June 2013 he took on the role as Executive Vice President for division Printing & Living (today Paper and Wood Products divisions).
Prior to joining Stora Enso, Mr. Sundström held the role as CFO of NXP Semiconductors 2008–2012. Before that, he held several managerial positions in Ericsson, including CFO.

Karl-Henrik participated in an Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 1997 and holds a degree in Business Administration, Finance and Accounting from the Uppsala

Taavi Saari is a 29 years old Production Engineer, who works at Stora Enso Heinola Fluting mill. As a Production Engineer, he is in charge of the pulp mill department of the mill. Taavi is a Master of Science in Technology graduate from the University of Oulu, where he studied process engineering. He has worked at Stora Enso’s mills in Kemi and Oulu before landing to Heinola.

Taavi is an active promoter of the forest industry. He has done promotion tours to high schools and universities since his studies.
