Liisa is a research professor in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism at the Natural Resources Institute of Finland (Luke). She coordinated the national research program “Well-being from forests” at the Finnish Forest Research Institute (2009-2014). She leads research work dealing with the health benefits of nature, outdoor recreation, nature-based tourism and, with her team, develops payment models for forest ecosystem services and new business approaches based on forest amenities. She has strong international networks and collaboration across Europe, Japan, China, and the U.S. She has authored 75 articles in peer-reviewed journals and books and has over 250 scientific publications. She is also a member of Metsähallitus board of directors, the organisation that oversees the management and utilisation of state-owned forests and water areas in Finland.
