Everyman’s Rights
Finland enjoys exceptionally wide-ranging everyman’s rights, and that is absolutely great! It is important that all of us – those walking or hiking in nature as well as the landowners – are aware of the rights and obligations of us all. What type of everyman are you?

You are an urban wanderer
You are better acquainted with the rules of city life than with everyman’s rights and obligations. You know how to survive in city streets in the nighttime, but just thinking about immersing yourself in nature makes you come out in a rash. For you to experience nature in the raw, sitting on the grass in a park is quite enough. However, if your internal Nature’s Child should find an urge to visit the woods, you had better take a friend with you who knows everyman’s rights, to make sure that you’ll find your way back home. That being said, don’t be afraid to enter a forest – it is full of superfoods!

You are a casual visitor to forests
Visiting a forest is natural for you and you like to pick berries and mushrooms, although you are not absolutely certain about all everyman’s and woman’s rights and obligations. In general, you manage your forest excursions without conflicts with landowners. You often pick berries in forests familiar to you, but you don’t take off for unknown areas without a map or information about trails, the nearest camping sites and inhabited areas. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t wander farther afield, but do revise your knowledge of everyman’s rights!

You are a guru – the compleat everyman
You spend all your free time outdoors, preferably as far from inhabited areas and other people as possible, but you’re also able to move in more crowded areas without leaving traces. You know how to deal with any situation in line with everyman’s rights and obligations. When hunger strikes, ant eggs bring a nice addition of protein to your dinner, absolutely legal on the basis of everyman’s rights. Of course, you only light your campfire where it’s allowed, and otherwise you’re happy with the romance of a camping stove. You are a guru – you even know the unwritten everyman’s rights. Don’t sit on what you know, but encourage others, too, to visit the great outdoors!
