EU Vice President Jyrki Katainen stresses the importance of bioeconomy and circular economy at the Forest Academy opening ceremony
Jyrki Katainen, Vice-President of the European Commission for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, brought the Commission’s greetings to the Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers and encouraged dialogue on the sustainable opportunities offered by forests.
“Forests are a link to European policy areas like, for example, climate, energy, industrial competitiveness, and of course, our nature legislation. Forests also play a role when we move towards a more circular economy model. Among other renewable resources, forests are also important part of bioeconomy, which is the renewable segment of circular economy,” Katainen said in his video greetings for the participant of the Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers.
The Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers, ongoing in Asikkala, Finland, from 21st to 23rd of November, is organized by the Finnish Forest Association and Swedish Forest Agency, based on the Finnish Forest Academy for Decision Makers. The Academy, working with the patronage of the Finnish Prime Minister, has educated 1500 top Finnish decision makers from different sectors of society to better understand the potential and status of forests and forest use.
