The Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers is designed to build dialogue around forest-based solutions and their potential to address global challenges. It is a discussion forum focusing on the ways in which forests can contribute to the development of a sustainable circular bioeconomy. The second Forest Academy pilot event will take place in Sweden.
The Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers 2018-2021 is a joint venture between Finland and Sweden which involves the engagement of an extensive group of stakeholders. The project consists of two consecutive pilot events.
The first event was organised in November 2018 as an intense two-day field course in southern Finland.
The second event will take place in Sweden. The event is by invitation only.
The programme presents the big picture of the forest sector and its role in addressing global challenges. It looks at strategic policy as well as hands-on solutions. At the Forest Academy, you can enjoy the exclusive programme with fascinating site visits. The event also offers possibilities to share insights and connect with other key decision makers in EU institutions. The programme consists of seminar sessions, field excursions, discussions and network building. The event will be held in English.
The Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers 2018-2021 is organized by the Finnish Forest Association and the Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen). The project is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation, the Finnish Forest Foundation and the Marjatta and Eino Kolli Foundation.
The implementation of the Forest Academy is based on the Forest Academy communication tool produced by the Finnish Forest Association. The association is a non-governmental, non-profit cooperation and communication body that brings together all the major forest-related stakeholders. In Finland, this communication and dialogue building programme has been running successfully since 1996. Some 1,500 top-level decision makers from all sectors of society have participated in the Forest Academy.
